Get Your Business Online!

Posted by | In: Site Development

Google MO

Google, Intuit and other partners have launched a free service to get more Missouri businesses online with their own Web site. More and more people are using the Internet to learn about products and where to buy products and services. There is no excuse not to get online now because it is free and easy to get started.

They offer a free template tool for normal business owners to set up their own site. The first year is free. After that, Intuit will continue the site services for a nominal monthly fee with no contract commitment.

Take a look at the site: Missouri Get Your Business Online!

I have no connection to this program other than having Google as a long time advertising client. If you have questions or prefer some local help with this, I’ll be happy to help DeSoto area businesses. Click the Contact link here on ShopDeSotoMO.com

Fallen Local Soldier’s Dog Comes Home

Posted by | In: DeSoto News

Last August, a soldier from DeSoto, James Ide IV, was killed during an attack in Afghanistan. He was a bomb-sniffing dog handler. His dog made it through the attack, but was traumatized.
The Army retrained the dog for civilian life, and this week retired her and sent her home to the soldier’s window and two young children. Kind of happy and sad at the same time. I’m certain Ddaphne means a lot to the family.

Cherished Memories

What makes DeSoto different from other communities? As stores and architectural design become more uniform across the nation, the individuality disappears. Encouraging what makes DeSoto, Mo. unique helps to make it a destination for nearby and out of the area folks.

Edward T. McMahon writes in “The Place Making Dividend” on Planetizen:
“The more a community comes to look just like every other community, the less reason there is to visit. On the other hand, the more a community does to enhance its distinctive identity, whether that is natural, cultural, or architectural, the more reasons there are to visit. Why?”

Why go someplace if it’s just like some other place? Price and convenience always are big factors. If DeSoto can be competitive on those issues and add small town warmth, appearance and friendliness, everyone comes out ahead.

Pick two businesses on Main Street that are part of what makes DeSoto special. Make a personal commitment to visit them regularly and spend $25 per month. Consider it an investment in keeping DeSoto’s unique character strong.
